"SMILEY" - Iditarod Leader
| Thank you so much to Mark & Karen
Ramstead for letting Smiley visit NH summer 2003. Smiley was a joy to
show and is a truely incredible mover. He has an awesome personality,
from his goofy play gestures, to his digging with his front feet at the
same time, to his standing on his hind legs clapping his front paws
together when he wants you to open his kennel door. Smiley was shown quite often, but only got one point while he was here - but he also got BOW & Best of Breed that same day and went into the Working Group. We were hoping he would go home an American Champion, but the judges just didn't "see" Smiley for the dog he really is. We had the pleasure of hooking him up a few times - he is a hard worker with good speed and a lovely effortless stride. It was so neat to have a dog who has done two Iditarods on our team ;) Smiley also had a busy summer siring litters. One litter was with Blackwaters Snow SD, a very lovely bi-eyed white bitch with a Anadyr/Northome pedigree. His second litter was with Northomes Maja - a wonderful Northome/Anadyr based bitch who is a phenominal leader with a great build. We had the pleasure of running her a few times and wow... we tried to keep her but Ingrid Bower of Thesewoods kennel (Maja's owner) said no way! Can't blame her there. We kept a puppy from that litter, Tracker who we are thrilled with. We didn't even bother asking Karen if we could keep Smiley as we knew the answer to that question! Smiley's 3rd litter was with a girl he grew up with - NorthWapiti's Lyra. This was a linebreeding on the combination of of BIS/BISS Can. Ch. Chuchinka's Shawn Boy, SD and Meomar's Miss Liberty. The Shawn Boy x Libby breeding produced many of Mark & Karen's best dogs, Spud, Buddy, Minnow, Ginger Grant, Gilligan, and Howl. "Shawn Boy" was a leader who also had huge success in the show ring with multiple Best In Shows. I have heard from many people that he was a truely awesome Siberian who moved like a dream. "Libby" was Mark & Karen's first Siberian and was the foundation bitch for their kennel... she is the one who got them hooked on mushing. Lyra had 8 puppies at Sibersong kennels, Jaye kept 2 and we kept 1, Decal. |
