Kelim Siberians

Event Journal

May 8th, 2006 - "New Dogs and Upcoming Events"

We did end up having one more race late in March, Kelly took a 6 dog team to the Eden Mtn sprint race and ran the 'open' mileage 6 dog class.  She won both days!  We only had two races, but we had great results.  Her team was Tracker & Dodge in lead, Lincoln & Quest in team, and Storm & Decal in wheel.

We purchased three new dogs this spring, two adults from Karen Ramstead, and one puppy from Mike & Kathy Carmichael of Utah.  We also leased a female from Karen for a litter.

Let me introduce you to our new kennel members:

NorthWapiti's Skor - a 4.5 year old dilute black & white male, leader. Skor is a fabulous distance dog, who ran and finished the Sheep Mountain 150, Goose Bay 120, Copper Basin 300 and Knik 200 in 2006.  He also made it onto Karen's Iditarod team (for the 2nd time) but was dropped in Nulato, over 700 miles out.  Skor is a very nicely balanced dog, who we might play with in the show ring.  He is very handsome and a easy dog to live with.  We got to take him out for a quick spring training run and were VERY happy with what we saw.  We have always been huge fans of Karen's "Chocolate Bar" litter and can't believe we own one of them! :)  Skor is also a son of one of our very favorite dogs, Grover.  We have two other sons of Grover, our most trusted race leader, Dodge, and a very promising yearling, Togo.

NorthWapiti's Rainy
- a 1.5 year old, almost all white female (she has a gray stripe down her back).  Rainy has more energy than any Siberian we have ever seen.  Constantly happy and playful, and not afraid of a thing.  We totally adore her.  She has incredible movement, one of the nicest moving Siberians we have ever seen.  We would love to show her, but the very tip of her ear never came up. We were blown away by how hard she drove on the training run we took her on - we think she has a very bright future ahead of her .  She is out of Karen's awesome boy Moses and her mom is Kaylinn, a great and proven producer.  Rainy is a half sibling to our Lincoln (same mother).

Carmack's Myst At Kelim - a 5 month old black and white female puppy.  We just picked her up a few days ago and are very happy with her structure and type.  She is out of Karen's Herman and  Roary.  If she grows up to run anything like her dad she should be unstoppable in harness :)  Her sire is just plain awesome.  Her mother is a very nice upcoming star in Karen's kennel too!

NorthWapiti's Kluane - Kluane was leased to us from Karen for a litter.  We think we are going to breed her to our Lincoln, but Skor could also be a possibility.  There are pros and cons to using each male :)  Kluane is a 6 year old Anadyr female.  Kluane has settled in well and is a very friendly and playful girl.  We were very happy with how she ran on the spring run, and can't wait to fully train her up after her litter.  She is a proven producer, previously having a litter of 2 pups that went on to make many of Mark & Karen's teams in the 2006 race season as two year olds. (Knik 200 etc)  We love her previous pups, Q and Jinx!  Makes us even more excited we get to have a litter with her!

We are missing training season, but have been attending breed handling and obedience classes.  We are planning to bring Skor, Tracker, Viper, Fury, Stryder and Myst to a local match show this weekend.  We have also just entered the Yankee Siberian Husky Specialty on June 2nd in Wrentham MA.  That is always our favorite show of the year.  We entered Skor, Tracker, Viper, Fury, Stryder, Storm and Ares.

After this show Holly is getting spayed (she is 7 yrs old and has no future breeding plans) and Storm neutered before moving to his new home with Scott & Linda Isabelle.  There Storm will hopefully be a main leader (or at least main team member) on their race team.  Storm will live there with a few other 'Kelim' dogs, including his son, Blizzard.  We are really going to miss Storm, but know he will get to race more and get more attention there.  Isabelle's live close by, so we will get to see Storm all the time.

That's all the news for now!
